Last issue we covered Rev — the most well-known transcription platform with weekly PayPal pay and a steady flow of work. If you missed it, go back and read it first. This week we are going into Scribie, which is a different animal and honestly a better starting point for a lot of people.
What is Scribie?
Same concept as Rev, you listen to audio files and type what you hear. But Scribie operates a little differently and is genuinely more beginner friendly in terms of getting accepted and learning as you go.
They have been around since 2008, have over 50,000 certified transcribers, and always have files available. It is legitimate and it pays.
What they pay:
Scribie pays $5 to $25 per audio hour. Files are usually 6-10 minutes long, so each file earns you about $0.50 to $2.50 depending on difficulty.
Real talk: that sounds low because it is low starting out. But here is the thing — Scribie shows you the reviewed version of your work after it is graded. That means you actually learn where you went wrong and get better fast. Most platforms do not do that.
The other thing worth knowing: if you transcribe at least 3 hours of audio in a month you get a $5 bonus added to your account. Small but consistent.

How to get in:
No experience required. Here is the process:
Sign up at scribie.com with your PayPal email — you need a verified PayPal account to get paid
Fill out a short form with your name, typing speed, and any experience you have
Pick a test audio file and transcribe it
Submit and wait — they review within one business day
If you pass, you are in and can start claiming files immediately
If you do not pass the first time you can see exactly where you went wrong and retry up to 10 times. There is no penalty for retrying.
The good stuff:
No experience required to apply
Files are short — usually under 10 minutes so you can fit them into small pockets of time
You can see your graded work and actually improve
Get promoted to Reviewer and Proofreader over time which pays more
Work from anywhere, no schedule, no minimum hours
Paid via PayPal, withdraw anytime — free for withdrawals of $30 or more
Tips to actually make money on Scribie:
Skip files with heavy accents or lots of background noise until you are comfortable — you can preview before claiming
They give you an automated transcript as a starting point — use it, it saves you real time
Focus on accuracy over speed at first — your grade matters and affects what files you can access
Aim to get promoted to Reviewer as fast as you can — the pay is better and the work is slightly different
Work at least 3 hours a month consistently to keep that bonus coming
Rev vs Scribie — which one is right for you?
Pick Rev if you want higher earning potential and more available work right away.
Pick Scribie if you want an easier entry point, a more forgiving learning curve, and a platform that actually teaches you as you go.
Honestly? Apply to both. They are both free and there is no rule that says you can only use one.
No affiliate links — both platforms are free to join and I have no financial relationship with either.

Rev was last issue. Scribie is this one. Next issue we are getting into something completely different — stay tuned.
